The DIRECTION We Need For A BETTER Sierra Leone

The DIRECTION We Need For A BETTER Sierra Leone
Leaders of parties;
Excellency’s,
Elders and citizens of Our Land,
Mothers, fathers, sisters, and brothers;
Distinguished Ladies & Gentlemen,
I am honored to be here speaking to you.

I am a author, poet, writer, philanthropist, Friend and the son of the late Allie Tasman Kamara and son of Kadiatu Turay. I speak of peace and my loyalty to my people and our land. I live to express, to profess the truth about my country, and to embrace unity, freedom, and justice. There are things we need to do for ourselves that require us to sit, think, understand, plan, and ask ourselves these questions: Who are we as a people? What vision do we wish to establish, where are we going, what do we need, how do we better the lives of our people?

When we look at the moments of the past and look on to the hours of today, can we answer these questions? Are we doing what we should be doing? Are we reaching the dreams of the late leaders of our countries? Dreams to build stronger education, welfare, infrastructure, employment and to be a self-supporting economy, all these questions need to be answered not only by leaders in power but also by the leader within ourselves. We must awaken to our true standing and embrace the three principles: unity, freedom, and justice.

In the 1950’s, our nation stood in unity. As we face the 21st Century, we as Sierra Leoneans must be uplifted in unity, freedom, and justice, in both the country and outwards. We must teach our people to stop self-hatred, tribalism, racism, sexism, homophobia, and religious bigotry. I also believe we must drive our ideas into actions. We must teach our people how to reach the top of their own “self-mountains”: self-happiness and self-esteem.

We must empower our youth’s inner spirits to push the positive vision of respect and give each other it inner unity. We must teach them the law of human rights, human kindness, and self-worth. We must transport these important things from darkness to light. Such light as the country gaining one of the nation that has deservedly won one of the 2010 Millennium Development Goals (MDG) AWARDS, or Launching free medical care for nursing mothers , pregnant women and children under five years old. And as we speak 30 roads will be reconstructed in Freetown and other areas in the country.

believe we must not ask why we should go back to help our people. Instead, we should ask, “Why not?” Why not rebuild the Voice of Our People? Why not rebuild the hopes of our youth? We must not base our future on self-hate, or the disgust of the human spirit.

In 1961, we have broken away from the hands of our oppressors yet the question we ask now is “Have we found freedom?” I have seen and spoken with great men and women who are changing things in Sierra Leone; however, what we need is a truly visionary person who is unafraid to achieve his nation’s goals. Our vision needs intelligence in the way that creation needs a creator, just as an invention needs an inventor. With this intelligent vision, we will push towards achieving greatness for our people.

We don't need a president or even the majority of the country to start peace. It starts with you and me to fix the problem of mine, yours, and our Sierra Leone. As long as you and I walk this path, others will follow. It is not easy, it takes hope. Hope that turns into belief and belief that turns into knowing and when you know peace you will carry it with you.

We will leave these things for others to gain when our time is done in this universe. We must stop in our tracks, of living for a moment, and look back into history. I truly believe that, if all of us are willing to think and work together: Nothing is impossible and the result will be happiness and hope.

I have faith in my country and I believe in my leaders and I believe we people of Temne, Mende, Limba, Kono, Mandingo, Krio, Fula, Kuranko, Sherbro, Susu, Loko, Kissi, Yalunka, and Vai can change this country! Nevertheless, before we can achieve that, we have to let the power of love overcome the desire for power. I know we can. We won our freedom over fifty years ago and I believe we can make a difference in this world and show the world that no matter what, the war that broke our people's hopes that through unity we can make it. We will rebuild the nation.

I as I will leave you with this thought: Dr. King once said “The battle is in our hands. And we can answer with creative nonviolence the call to higher ground to which the new directions of our struggle summons us. The road ahead is not altogether a smooth one. There are no broad highways that lead us easily and inevitably to quick solutions. But we must keep going." That is why we cannot forget the torments of the past. Violence is not an achievement. We must energize and fulfill the dreams of our forefathers, we as the people of Sierra Leone and our brothers and sisters from the outside must watch path we take in our nation, what we do in our country, we must give peace, wisdom, and teach imagination. We CAN make this world a better place, step-by-step, town-by-town. Individual by individual! We WILL begin the next great chapter in the Sierra Leone’s history. We will bring change to this world! We must get along and agree on ideas that will better the Republic of Sierra Leone.
